The Chancellor’s Doctoral Incentive Program (CDIP)

Award & Funding

Program Benefits:

  • Financial Loan
    • CDIP offer’s loans up to $10,000 per year over 5 years with a maximum of $30,000.
    • 1 year grace period
    • Repayable over 15 years if withdrawn from doctoral study or become faculty at non-CSU campus
    • Forgivable at the rate of 20% per year of full-time teaching appointment at any CSU or 10% each year for half-time teaching appointment at any CSU
    • CDIP Scholar Development Programs
      • Mini-Grant Program – up to $2,500 for Scholar and $1,200 for Faculty Mentor to support research, teaching or creative activities including thesis & dissertation projects
      • Travel Grant Program – biannual call for applications, up to $1,500 per trip for Scholar and $1,200 for Faculty Mentor to fund Scholar’s participation in workshops/conferences

 

Applicant Eligibility:

  • Enrollment or employment in the CSU is not required
  • Undergraduate or Master’s level graduate students in the application process to accredited doctoral programs in the U.S.
  • New/Continuing full-time doctoral students currently enrolled in accredited programs in the U.S.
  • Lecturers who are enrolled full-time in a doctoral program
    • (25% of the awards are expected to be made to individuals who have served in CSU positions represented in the CFA in the last two years)
  • Must have a CSU Faculty Mentor – faculty mentor must be full-time tenure or tenure-track
    • Provide advising and network opportunities throughout the CDIP Scholar’s educational experience
    • Help Scholar to understand the workings of higher education institutions
    • Aid in the development skills relevant to success as a CSU tenure-track faculty both as a researcher and a teacher
    • Jointly develop the written Collaborative Plan of Support

 

Application Requirements (InfoReady)

  • Complete Application Form on CSU Chancellor’s Office InfoReady website
  • Current Curriculum Vitae – limit up to 4 pages
  • Statement of Qualifications & Motivation – limit up to 3 pages
  • Collaborative Plan of Support – co-constructed with Faculty Mentor and applicant
  • Three professional letters of recommendation – one must be from Faculty Mentor
    • If currently enrolled in a doctoral program, one letter must be from a faculty member at that institution
  • Recent CSU faculty position announcement in the applicant’s field

 

SSU CDIP Campus Coordinator Timeline:

  • Contact Chancellor’s Office to provide SSU Campus Coordinator information and schedule a time for CO Team to come to SSU to present to faculty/students about the program
  • Determine SSU Campus Application Review Committee
  • Applications due 2/1/2019
  • Application Review Committee reviews all applications; completes the CDIP Applicant Summary Form (Form A)
  • Send Application Summary Form to President’s office about your selections
  • Obtain a letter from the President addressed to Vice Chancellor for Human Resources (see Sample Letter)
  • Complete Nominations Cover Sheet (Form B) and mail all applications and documents by 3/8/2019.
